Platform PRD
01-planning/product-requirementsThe strategic anchor. One per product; every Feature PRD inherits from it.
What it is
The Platform PRD is the highest tier of the Cascade — the strategic layer that defines what the product is and what it is not. Keep it short: a Platform PRD that takes twenty minutes to read is a planning document, not a strategic anchor.
When to write it
Once, near the start — before the first Feature PRD. Revisit it when the product's direction genuinely shifts.
What goes in it
- What the product does, in one sentence
- Who uses it, and in what context
- The three things it must do well
- What is explicitly out of scope
How it fits
Every Feature PRD inherits from the Platform PRD. It's the source of the constraints each feature is scoped against.
